Laura Stump Kennedy is a Staff Attorney with Church World Service, Lancaster in the Immigrant Children's Program. Laura is from Arizona and has worked in and around migrant and immigrant rights for over a decade. She graduated in 2020 from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law. After law school, Laura worked for three years with the Florence Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project providing free representation to individuals in immigration detention in Arizona. Michelle Batt is a Staff Attorney and Pro Bono Coordinator at Church World Services’ Immigrant Children’s Program. She obtained her B.A. and J.D. from the Pennsylvania State University. After a decade in criminal law, including seven years as a public defender, Batt switched careers and joined a growing movement to provide universal representation to children in immigration court. CWS’ Immigrant Children’s Program provides representation to unaccompanied children—those who enter the U.S. without a parent or legal guardian—many of whom are eligible for SIJS.
