With tax season in the rear view mirror for many of us, tax practitioners and corporate attorneys alike may be wondering what comes next. With additional funding, IRS has made clear that it will be ramping up enforcement on high-net worth taxpayers and those who hold non-traditional assets, like digital assets. The agency will also be focusing on offshore matters, which will be interesting in light of last year's dramatic SCOTUS ruling in Bittner. There are two more tax cases winding through SCOTUS: Moore (which some worry could upend our tax system) and Connelly. And, there may be one still waiting in the wings: two court cases challenging the Corporate Transparency Act could mean that the CTA ends up at SCOTUS. That means that we still have a lot to talk about for the remainder of 2024.
