Course Description: Matt will explain how the Office of Disciplinary Counsel (“ODC”) prosecutes matters and discuss strategies in defending the same. Participants will learn what and what not to do when faced with a disciplinary complaint. Matt will also provide examples of cases that he has handled in the past to highlight what the attorneys did that caught ODC’s attention as common mistakes include improper handling of client funds, lack of diligence/competence in handling cases, and insufficient communication with clients.

Matt regularly assists lawyers in responding to complaints filed with the Office of Disciplinary Counsel and has participated in multiple disciplinary hearings. As a thought leader on attorney ethics issues, Matt has led multiple CLE presentations at various bar associations discussing and detailing Pennsylvania’s attorney disciplinary process.

In addition to white collar and professional ethics-related matters, Matt’s litigation background also includes defending corporations and individuals in commercial and business litigation. These cases have involved product liability, environmental and toxic tort actions brought in federal and state court. Matt has defended multiple major product liability cases that arose from serious personal injuries and property damage.
